How to make a trick or treat box from your washing powder box

Get creative this Halloween by transforming an old container into a trick or treat carrier! Not only will you do you bit by recycling, but your child will also have an exciting, personalised container for their candy- making their trick or treating that much more special.

You will need:

  • Small plastic container
  • Permanent marker
  • Drill with small drill bit
  • 2 black shoelaces
  • Halloween stickers and labels
  • Cutting mat
  • Ruler
  • Cupcake holders
  • Craft knife
  • Adhesive spray
  • Sweets and treats


1. Use a permanent marker to indicate where you need to drill holes in your storage box. Ensure that there are two on each side, parallel to each other. Drill each hole.)

2. Insert the shoelace through one hole and make a knot to secure it. Do the same with the other side of the shoelace.

3. Decorate the container to your taste with the Halloween stickers.

4. Place paper cupcake holders on your cutting mat and fold it in half 3 times over. Cut out strips in the holder with the craft knife. This will create the spider web as shown in the pictures.

5. Fold open the spider web and spray the back side with adhesive spray before sticking them onto the container.

6. Hand the container over to your child and get ready to trick or treat!
