8 projects to keep kids busy: Peppermint sweets

This recipe is so easy, your youngest could pull it off. Served with coffee, mints are the perfect full stop to a lavish meal. Or package in cellophane to hand out as parting gifts.

Preparation time: 15 minutes

250g icing sugar

35ml cream

Pinch of salt

5ml peppermint essence

Lime green food coloring

Directions to make peppermint:

 

1. Sift the icing sugar together with a pinch of salt. Add the cream and the peppermint essence. Mix well and knead until smooth. Add a little more cream if necessary.

 

2. Divide the mixture in half. Color one half with a few drops of lime green food coloring and leave the other half white.

 

3. Roll into small balls and place onto a tray. Leave to harden. Pack between layers of baking paper or place in a cellophane bag.
