My Perfect Little Dress

My Perfect Little Dress

Every woman has a favourite dress. It has a flattering fit, makes you feel good and confident, and most of all it makes you look hot! These three women share their perfect dress to wear on a special Valentine’s Day date or outing.

Thrift-store treasure

Deanna Fainelli, a mixedmedia artist, has her favorite go-to dress, which she bought at a thrift-store. “This dress is one of those surprising treasures that come around only once,” says Deanna. She describes it as an “amazing Asian-inspired dress that’s a cross between the classic cheongsam and a wrap dress.” It’s made of lightweight, black wool. It’s sleeveless, hits right at the knee and is cinched at the waist on one side. The neckline has an interesting keyhole opening detail. “This dress is the epitome of understated sexy,” she adds. “It’s super flattering and I feel great in it!”

For Valentine’s Day, she jazzes it up with stacked, chunky red and orangey-red bracelets, made out of vintage Bakelite. Strappy sandals finish her “chic and timeless” look.

Vintage sexiness

Glenda Solis, an actress and personal stylist, has a unique sense of style. She favours modern takes on vintage looks mixed with eclectic accessories. She says about her fashion philosophy, “If you find a style that looks good on you, get it in every colour.” Found online, her perfect dress is made of stretchy lace and she has it in multiple hues. She brings out the red one for Valentine’s Day. It has a “Victorian meets steampunk feel” with a fitted bodice and a floaty, multi-layered skirt that hits mid-calf. “It makes me feel like how I envision myself: a little sexy, feminine and individual.”

She accessorizes the look with red rhinestone jewelry and dark red lipstick to go with her black hair. She pairs the outfit with Victorian-style lace-up ankle boots or cowboy boots. “For Valentine’s Day, you absolutely have to mix it up and experiment,” she says. “When fashion is predictable it becomes boring.”

Delicate dress

Jackie Cruz works in entertainment and blogs about personal finance in her spare time. She wanted a cocktail dress to wear for business events as well as for parties. “It’s very easy to rely on nice jeans and a dressy top to go out,” she explains about the casual look that dominates Hollywood fashion culture. “So I needed to up my game!” She found the perfect little black dress online. The bodice has thin straps with crystal embellishments and a tiered chiffon skirt that hits just below the knee. “It’s comfortable and fits like a glove,” she says. “A good fit is always risky when shopping online.” When she wears the dress, it makes her feel “delicate”. For a woman in a high-powered job she says, laughing, “Feeling delicate is usually the last thing I embrace.”

For Valentine’s Day, she spices up the dress with pops of color: “awesome, dark red suede platform pumps, a red pashmina and a metallic gold clutch.”
