4 step anti-wrinkle exercises

How can we use our smile to help fight wrinkles? Contrary to popular belief, smiling for 3 minutes a day can in fact help lift the neck, tone the lips and firm up the cheeks. Try these 4 easy exercises at home to help put that smile back on your face before summer arrives!

What you should know

The correct posture:

  • Stand in front of a mirror
  • Keep your back nice and straight and your shoulders slightly back
  • Take a deep breath

The correct frequency

  • Start by doing the exercise every other day.
  • As part of a skincare routine, do it once or twice a week.

1) Laughing the vowels, 2 minutes

The exercise:

  • This exercise involves fully articulating a series of vowels whilst laughing. Breathe in deeply before you start.
  • Repeat the process 3 times.

The benefits: Lifts the neck and firms up the corners of the mouth.

2) The fish pout, 3 minutes

  • Suck the cheeks in until the lips form a figure-of-eight (as if you were imitating a fish's pout).
  • Hold this position for 10 seconds.
  • Repeat the exercise 20 times.

The benefits: Tones the cheeks and the lips and plumps up the lower facial area.

3) Applying a little pressure, 3 minutes

The exercise:

  • Pinch the lips together until they touch the teeth.
  • Apply a little pressure and stretch them out as widely as you can.
  • Maintain the pressure for a further 20 seconds before relaxing all the muscles.
  • Do this a dozen or so times.

The benefits: Effectively helps prevent sagging of the skin surrounding the lips and will certainly boost that smile!

4) The kiss, 2 minutes

The exercise:

  • Push the lips forward into an extreme pout, as if puckering up for a kiss
  • Hold this position for as long as you can (30 seconds). For maximum effect, place two fingers on the lips to apply pressure and strengthen the muscles around the mouth even more.
  • Repeat the process 4 times.

The benefits: Firms the lips and smooths out the fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
